BRAKES
With the increase in MGVW to 6050 kgs the HUMMERZINE is in Euro Class M3 which makes it subject to the more severe TYPE 11A Endurance Braking Tests. This required a major re-think of the braking system as the performance of the standard Hummer brakes fell well short of EU requirements. To solve this problem we fitted a KLAM Electromagnetic Brake Retarder to the front propshaft, integrated with the ABS system and connected directly to the service brake, we also had to design and manufacture a Retarder/ABS interface controller to meet EU control requirements. Apart from increased braking efficiency this also has the benefits of decreased loading on the foundation brake system with subsequent lower maintenance costs. The standard brake pads have been replaced with specially designed Hi Performance EBC pads. The result is a vehicle with astonishing braking performance compared to the standard Hummer limousine.
WEIGHTPROVING
Everyone in the industry will be aware of the requirements of VOSA that all stretched limousines be proven capable of carrying the increased weights by having each weight bearing component certificated by a licensed authority acceptable to VOSA and VCA. To comply with these requirements we have had one of Europe’s leading licensed test companies carry out a full programme of testing over many months which has resulted in full certification of The HUMMERZINE at the new MGVW of 6050 kgs to operate under COIF PSV legislation. The HUMMERZINE is also plated to tow an 880 kgs braked trailer so that you can carry all that airport luggage without compromising the interior space.
As part of the programme the HUMMERZINE is fitted with TOYO 285/70R17/126S Tyres which are the only tyres certificated for this weight.
THE TURNING CIRCLE
Because of the very poor steering lock angles of the standard Hummer H2 which result in an increasing turning circle diameter the longer the vehicle is stretched it has been impossible for a Hummer Limousine to meet the strict turning circle requirements of COIF/EU – until now. Our major re-design of the steering linkages and front suspension of the Hummer by one of Europe’s leading Bus and Truck engineering companies now enables The HUMMERZINE to meet all the strictest UK/EU turning circle requirements. We re-designed and re-manufactured new Knuckles/Hubcarriers – Steering Rack – TrackRod Ends – Swivel Joints – Pitman and Idler Arms – plus we have designed a new link to prevent lateral rotation of the steering rack which is a feature of the standard Hummer design and causes premature front tyre wear.
The vehicle is now Rear Wheel Drive only, which gives more responsive steering, lower maintenance costs and improved mpg.
